Claire is 5 months!

Dear Friends and Family,

I can't believe how big my little girl is getting! She is 5 months old now and wearing her 6 month old clothes! Claire and I took a special trip down to D.C. last week. While there, we visited with my BAI bosses and Claire told them that she was going to employ me full-time so they would need to look for a permanent replacement to my position. My former bosses took the news pretty well (I mean, even I have a hard time saying "No" to Claire) and they were very supportive to me in this new venture. They were also kind enough to offer me my job back when Claire no longer needed me on a full-time basis! I thought that was so nice. Jim and Denny really are two of the most amazing bosses!

So at 5 months, Claire is rolling a lot! She loves to spend time on her belly, but still hasn't figured out how to get from her tummy to her back when she is done with that position. She has fallen asleep on her tummy only twice after rolling over. This has resulted in Chris and I taking turns to go roll her back over when she rolls in her sleep and wakes up. Luckily, she usually falls back to sleep once we readjust her!

I dressed Claire in one of her new 6 month dresses for Father's Day! She looked so cute for her Daddy. We went to Mass and the ushers asked Chris if he would carry the gifts up to the altar since he was a new Dad. Chris did a great job! I'm so blessed to have such an amazing husband who is also a great Dad. Chris supports Claire and I so well. Before bed at night he always asks me how I'm doing and lets me know that he appreciates me. I appreciate him so much too. I'm so glad to have a husband who is supportive to me staying home with Claire. (I love you Chris!)

Now that Claire is getting closer to 6 months, I keep telling myself that I need to start getting more dedicated to giving her solids. We have been doing oatmeal cereal for the past few weeks, but I only remember to do it about once a week! While nursing Claire (my philosophical times of the day), I was asking myself why I've been so lax about starting her on solids. One part is laziness, I'm sure, but the other part is feeling like she won't be a baby anymore once she's no longer dependent on me for her meals. It really makes me sad to think about. If you told me I would feel this way when I started nursing, I would say,"Are you crazy?! I can't wait to be done with this!" But now that it is so easy, I absolutely love that time we have together. I love feeling her little body cuddling against mine, getting the chance to watch her eye lashes grow long and full and to see her hair turn golden.

The other day Claire fell asleep while she was eating. I sat for an hour with her in my lap listening to her slow, steady breathing, watching her fluttering eyelids and the twitching corners of her little pink lips into smiles. I couldn't help but fall deeper in love with her.
