Dear Friends and Family,
Yesterday morning I was snuggling my sweet Will awake when he turned to me and said the dreaded words, "Mom, my head really itches." (CUE - muffled cry and large eyes) I grabbed his head and looked around his ears and neck to see small red bumps! NO!!!!!!! Will has LICE! Yes, LICE. And now you are wondering, like I am, HOW?! How during a quarantine for COVID with virtual school did we manage to get LICE? UGH. I quickly contacted a few friends who in the past shared their misery over combatting lice and was referred to a company called Lice Happens. They have a special lice comb and hair foam that unglues the lice from you hair so you can comb them out. I spent all day washing clothes and bedding and two and half hours combing lice out of Will's hair last night. This morning I went back to work to see if I missed any and found about 18 more! Then I combed again after school and found 5 more. I'm hoping to keep combing and eventually find NONE.
In the meantime we are checking everyone's hair, and I'm feeling itchier. I'm not sure if it's "in my head" or if they are actually "on my head!" I'm praying that it's the former.
2020, you can't end soon enough!
There was a bright side to this week, and it involves some special moments with Claire. She is such a sweetheart. We were getting dressed one morning and she said, "Mom, if you subbed on twin day at school we could dress alike and be twins together!"
I know it was just a passing idea for her, but I almost started to cry! I mean, my daughter thought it would be AWESOME if we went to school dressed like TWINS! Claire turns 10 this January. With the pre-teen days close at hand, I'm going to just think about those words over and over again and cherish them for the sweet sentiment they carry. I love my sweet Claire! She's growing up so fast...and she wants to be my twin!
Also, this weekend we had a firepit/bonfire in our driveway. Neighbors stopped by to play (I'm sure they are all regretting that now. Of course I sent everyone a text letting them know to check their kids for lice...and begged forgiveness). As dinner approached Claire decided to make a platter of pigs in a blanket for everyone who was hanging out around the fire. With very little help, except with the oven, she brought out a delicious dinner! I was so proud of her and everyone was extremely impressed.
This week was the kick-off to our Girl Scout Cookie deliveries. We were supposed to participate in booth sales too, but with COVID on the rise, Girl Scouts canceled all booth sales. As a mom I gave a huge sigh of relief, meanwhile our troop leader was in tears over the 2,000 boxes of cookies we would be unable to sell. However, she's a Girl Scout and once she had finished feeling upset about the situation, she quickly put together a Facebook message with a Google order form on all the community pages with links to the girls' order pages and we sold all 2,000 cookies this weekend! When I told her, "What a relief! I guess that's it for cookies this year, she said, "No way, we are getting so many orders I just ordered 150 more cases of cookies!" (There are 12 boxes/case.)
Even the people at the cookie distribution center couldn't believe they heard her right. They kept saying, yes, we can buy back 150 cases. She said, "No, I need 150 MORE cases!" (Confused silence on the other end of the phone.)
I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!
Pray for us that we rid ourselves of the pestilence! The shortbread cookies and Thin Mints are seeing me through this time.
Love,
Bethie
