Back into the Swing of Things

Dear Friends and Family,

I really can't believe that Christmas is already over! Even though most of the decorations are put away, I still catch myself whistling Christmas songs and then I stop and say, "Oh my goodness! It's already 2019!" We must be having fun, because time is flying! Claire's birthday will be celebrated with two friends this weekend and then we will travel to Northern Kentucky the following weekend to throw my sister a baby shower and celebrate my mom's birthday.

Meanwhile things have calmed down around the house. The kids went back to school on January 2nd, and to say that it was easy for us to jump back into the routine would be a lie! Although the kids had no problem getting up before 7am during break, I had to practically dress both of them while they were still asleep for that first day back to school.

Soon after going back to school, the kids were assigned a literacy bingo paper. They had from January 6th to February 6th to complete one row of reading assignments like, "read to a sibling, or read on a rainy day..." in order to receive a prize. Both my kids were so excited to do the project that they completed the ENTIRE bingo page (not just a row) in a matter of days.  Claire's teacher promised the kids 5 duck bucks for every combination of Bingo they could manage. Claire was the first in her class to turn her paper in and received 60 duck bucks! Will's teacher reminded him that he had more time to work on the Bingo paper and then realized he already finished the whole paper so she gave him 5 duck bucks.

I'm so impressed with both of their reading. Claire is reading the Ramona and Beezus series by Beverly Cleary and Will is reading so well, he can do books on his own with little help. After realizing their enthusiasm for reading, I took them back to the library to feed their interest with more books. Claire checked out a Shel Silverstein poetry book. The poems are funny and quick reads when she doesn't have time for her chapter book.

I had one last Christmas celebration with my wonderful "Shackies" book club last week. I can tell they love me because they wanted to get a group picture with their new ear warmers I made them for Christmas. We had a wonderful time visiting and catching-up.
The only big news this week is that we got a new front door! It was just installed on Monday, so we still need to do some touch-up painting. I love the privacy we have with this new sturdy door.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!
Love,
Bethie
