Dear Friends and Family,
This past week has been all about Claire! She turned 8 years old today! I can't believe what a young lady she is turning into. You know your little girl is growing up when she squeals with delight over presents of crafts, a purse, nail polish, shower gel, lotion, and cash money! Claire has gotten lots of great gifts so far from friends and family. She has a few more to open this afternoon when she gets home from school. Thanks to everyone for the cards, calls, and gifts.
I was supposed to take the kids with me to Kentucky this weekend for my sister's baby shower, but due to lots of snow and ice here in Maryland, Chris decided it would be best for me to fly. This weekend will be a quick visit, but I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone who is coming to celebrate my sister and her, soon to arrive, little one! March isn't that far away!
As for Claire's birthday celebration, we started on Saturday with a trip to the mall's Playseum with two of Claire's best friends. It is like a children's discovery museum, but it has a few different science/craft/food bars where you can decorate your own cupcake or cookie, make "snow", slime or toothpaste, or make your own soap, lip balm, or sugar scrub. Will decided to make snow and decorate a cupcake, the girls couldn't get away from the beauty bar and came home with toothpaste, soap, and sugar scrub!

| Will and I played while the girls did their own thing at the Playseum. This Fireman Will and his silly face cracks me up! |
 |
| The Playseum even has a pet shop where you can visit the live pets or take care of a pretend stuffed animal one. |
 |
| Will smiles with his cupcake creation! |

| Claire's little birthday party! |
 |
| Looking so grown-up! |
Last night, Chris let Claire pick out a restaurant for her birthday dinner. She chose well - Outback!
 |
| Thunder down under! |
 |
| Will is clearly worried that Daddy and Claire are going to start eating before the picture is over! His speech bubble says, "Can I smile and keep and eye on that dessert at the same time?!" |
The schools have a new rule about birthdays - you can only bring in a birthday treat during lunch. Claire decided that she wanted her class to have donuts for a treat. I brought in two big boxes and since there is a strict rule that only the birthday girl's class can have the treat, I had to fight off students who weren't in her class as I passed them out! (Eek!)
As I mentioned before, we got snow this weekend. Lots of snow! Claire helped Chris shovel the driveway and then Chris and I did the neighbor's driveway and I did two more neighborhood driveways. It was great exercise! Meanwhile, the kids got their workout on our friends Maggie and Colin's snowy sledding hill. Once all the work was done the moms got in on the sledding action too!
 |
| Peppermint hot cocoa! |
 |
| Frances, Claire, and Taylor load up their sled train! |
 |
| Now it's the Moms' turn! - (Lisa and Maggie (behind me) are two of my island look-a-likes!) |
I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!
Love,
Bethie

| A snowy morning - I was saying to friends, "There's something about waking up to a snowy sunrise that feels like a fresh start or a new beginning!" |
